Vietnam – U.S. Trade Hits USD 126 Bln in First 9 Months of 2025

According to the latest data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, total Vietnam – U.S. trade reached USD 126.43 billion in the first nine months of 2025 — a strong increase compared to the same period in 2024. With this result, the United States remains Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner, following China, highlighting the growing importance of Vietnam – U.S. economic cooperation in global supply chains.

Exports Surge 27.74%

Vietnam’s exports to the U.S. totaled USD 112.77 billion, up 27.74% year-on-year.
Top export categories include:

  • Computers, electronic products and components: USD 30.28 billion
  • Machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts: USD 17.44 billion
  • Textiles and garments: USD 13.49 billion
  • Phones and components: USD 8.33 billion
  • Wood and wooden products: USD 6.97 billion

This sharp increase highlights Vietnam’s growing role as a key supplier to the U.S. market, particularly in electronics, manufacturing, and consumer goods.

Imports Grow 23.55%

On the import side, Vietnam’s purchases from the U.S. reached USD 13.66 billion, up 23.55% from the same period last year.
Major import categories include:

  • Computers, electronic products and components: USD 4 billion
  • Cotton: USD 1.14 billion
  • Machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts: USD 915 million
  • Raw plastic materials: USD 855 million
  • Animal feed and raw materials: USD 592 million

Imports from the U.S. continue to support Vietnam’s manufacturing industries, especially in textiles, plastics, and electronics — helping drive domestic production and export growth.

Toward a Balanced Trade Partnership

With bilateral trade expanding over 25% in 2025, Vietnam – U.S. trade relations are entering a new phase of comprehensive and balanced cooperation. Both countries are reportedly advancing discussions on a Vietnam–U.S. Reciprocal Trade Agreement, which aims to establish a more transparent, fair, and sustainable trade and investment framework in the coming years, further strengthening economic ties between Vietnam and the United States.
