Ho Chi Minh City leads the national ranking with a total import-export turnover of USD 157.68 billion. Exports reached USD 76.34 billion, while imports were slightly higher at USD 81.34 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of USD 5 billion. As the country’s economic engine, the city maintains high demand for machinery, electronics, consumer goods, and raw materials, driving its consistently large trade volume.

Bac Ninh – Tech Manufacturing Powerhouse

Ranked second is Bac Ninh, with a total import-export value of USD 148.33 billion-nearly equal to Ho Chi Minh City. Its export turnover hit USD 76.44 billion, while imports reached USD 71.89 billion, generating a surplus of USD 4.55 billion. Home to major electronics and high-tech manufacturers, Bac Ninh continues to be one of Vietnam’s most important export-driven provinces.

Other Strong Import-Export Contributors

The next positions highlight Vietnam’s increasingly diversified trade landscape:

  • Hai Phong: USD 71.14 billion, supported by seaport logistics advantages.
  • Phu Tho: USD 60.32 billion, driven by electronics and manufacturing.
  • Hanoi: USD 55.72 billion, though facing a deficit of USD 21.42 billion due to high import demand.
  • Dong Nai: USD 48.75 billion, with a notable trade surplus of USD 8.75 billion.
  • Thai Nguyen: USD 42.7 billion, boosted by large FDI manufacturing projects.
  • Ninh Binh, Tay Ninh, and Hung Yen complete the Top 10, each maintaining steady export growth.

Import-Export Trends Highlight Regional Strengths

The 2025 ranking reflects clear regional distribution patterns. Northern provinces like Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen dominate high-tech manufacturing exports, while southern provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh remain strong in industrial production and import of materials.

Despite global economic fluctuations, Vietnam’s import-export performance remains resilient. The rise of multiple provinces with turnover above USD 40–70 billion shows the country’s expanding industrial base and increasingly balanced trade structure.
